Mercury retrograde is perhaps the most famous — and most misunderstood — transit in popular astrology. Three or four times a year, Mercury appears to slow down and reverse its path through the sky. It doesn't actually reverse, of course; it's an optical illusion caused by the relative speeds of Earth and Mercury.

But in astrological tradition, retrogrades are meaningful. Mercury governs communication, technology, contracts and travel. When it retrogrades, those domains tend to slow down, glitch and demand review rather than fresh starts.

The 2026 retrograde windows

This year, Mercury retrogrades from March 14 to April 7 in Pisces, from July 18 to August 11 in Leo, and from November 9 to November 29 in Sagittarius. Each window carries the flavour of its sign.

“A retrograde is not a curse. It's a cosmic invitation to review, revise and reconnect.”

How to navigate it

  • Back up your devices and double-check travel plans.
  • Revisit old projects rather than launching new ones.
  • Reach out to people you've lost touch with — retrogrades love reunions.

The truth about Mercury retrograde is simpler than the hype suggests: slow down, review and refine. The universe isn't against you — it's asking you to be more intentional.
